Arsenal have been chasing Aouar all summer with the Gunners said to have had a couple of offers rejected.
Lyon were said to be demanding £55million but that price has reportedly dropped in recent days.
An offer of £41million plus add-ons is said to be Lyon’s current asking price but that remains beyond Arsenal’s budget.
The Gunners have not been helped this week by reports of late interest in Aouar from PSG and Real Madrid.
Real coach Zidane was asked about the links ahead of the La Liga champions’ trip to Levante.
He said: “I don’t know what information you have. I have no doubt about this player, he is a great player.
“Maybe one day he could play for Madrid, but today we have this squad and my concern is the players I have now. As of October 5, there will be no such questions.”
