WWE SmackDown LIVE Results (01/15): Shane McMahon’s Birthday Bash

Tonight’s episode of SmackDown LIVE opens up with an SUV pulling up in the back. Becky Lynch steps out and fans start chanting her name. Kayla Braxton approaches her and asks her if she is truly ready for SmackDown Women’s Champion Asuka. Becky then asks if Kayla really waited to ask her that and Kayla already knows the answer but Becky will go answer it in the ring. She walks off and tosses her keys to Kayla.
We see Heavy Machinery’s Tucker Knight & Otis Dozovic mixing up a nasty concoction in a blender with The New Day. They are using tuna, eggs and other ingredients. Kofi Kingston, Big E & Xavier Woods want none of the shake. Becky approaches and Otis gives her the pitcher of the shake. Becky takes a sip and says it’s a little weak. She hands it back and keeps walking, leaving everyone looking impressed.
We go to the ring as Tom Phillips welcomes us to the show live at The Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. He is joined by Corey Graves & Byron Saxton.
The music hits as Becky Lynch makes her way down to the ring to a pop. Commentary then goes over tonight’s show.
In the ring, she gets on the mic and says that in a few short weeks she gets a chance to take her SmackDown Women’s Championship back. She then says that she got the whole world talking about it, but where is it now? She then says that everyone thinks what she did was a fluke and that it was all easy until they try it and boy are they all trying. Men, Women, RAW, SmackDown LIVE, all trying to find that extra badass gear ever since she broke through.
And Asuka is finding out just how hard leading this division really is. She then says that there are even those that try to discredit her and say that she is just hype and yet she delivers on everything she says every single time. She then says that Asuka walked into WrestleMania last year indestructible and unbeatable and yet she lost. Not only did she lose, but it shook her to her core and the invincible Asuka couldn’t beat once the woman Becky beat five times in a row around the world and she asks if Lynch is ready for her.
Asuka makes her entrance. She gets on the mic and says that Becky is like a little bee, but no sting. Asuka then says that after Royal Rumble she won’t be in Charlotte’s shadow, she will be in Asuka’s. A primal scream from the champion punctuates that statement.
The IIconics make their entrance. Billie Kay starts and tells Asuka that that is not how a proper champion behaves, making scary faces and threats. Billie then says where is the dignity and the class. Peyton Royce then addresses “that bully Becky” and Billie dubs her Bossy Becky and calls it typical behaviour from a man. The IIconics then say that it doesn’t matter who wins the title match because they are going to win The Royal Rumble and then the tag belts and then make WrestleMania absolutely iconic.
Becky turns to Asuka and says that she will show her why she is the talk of the industry and then asks which Iconic wants to be made an example of right here in Birmingham, Alabama. They debate amongst themselves and we go to a commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and we are just in time for the bell.
Becky Lynch vs. Peyton Royce: Billie Kay and Asuka are both at ringside. Becky goes to shake Peyton’s hand, but instead she punches her in the face. They briefly spill out to ringside and then back in the ring Becky starts working over Peyton’s shoulder. Lacey Evans is shown backstage watching on a monitor. Royce goes out to ringside for a breather and back in the ring Peyton turns things around with a flurry of offense. Peyton puts the boots to Becky in the corner, but Becky comes back with a series of elbows to the face. Becky hits a flying forearm shot off the middle rope for a two count. Peyton starts fighting back and they spill outside in front of Asuka. Back in the ring, Becky applies The Dis-Arm-Her for the win. Winner: Becky Lynch
After the match, Asuka hits the ring and yells at Becky in Japanese. Asuka wants a match with Billie Kay.
Asuka vs. Billie Kay: After the previous match, Asuka and Billie get into it at ringside, then Asuka throws her in the ring and we’ve got a match. Asuka almost immediately applies the Asuka lock for the win via submission. Winner: Asuka
After the match, Asuka and Becky face off in the ring until the music hits and out comes AJ Styles.
The Phenomenal One makes his entrance and immediately leaps the barricade into the crowd, heading up the steps and we go to a commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and AJ Styles is at the concession stand. He has got a table full of hot dogs, popcorn and soda lined up and you can barely hear him over the excited fans there.
He says that the people spent their hard-earned money to be here and that means they should do what makes them happy and if that means eating a hot dog, so be it. Styles then says that he is gonna kick Daniel Bryan’s ass at The Royal Rumble Event and take his title back and he punctuates his point by throwing t-shirts to the crowd. Bryan attacks him from the crowd and we got ourselves a concession stand brawl. Styles with a double leg through the hot dog table. There is mustard everywhere. WWE Officials finally pull off AJ.
We go backstage with The Usos, when a man delivers a present. Jey reads the card for Jimmy and it is about how whoever sent it is a naughty girl that needs to be locked up in The Uso Penitentiary. He finishes the note and of course it’s from Mandy Rose. There is a key to her hotel room in the box and he asks Jimmy what he is going to do, but his brother is uncertain.
Samoa Joe is walking backstage when he runs into EC3 flexing in front of a mirror.
On that note, we go to a commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and commentary talks about Fabulous Truth’s vacation at WWE Headquarters while a slideshow of pictures from it plays.
Andrade “Cien” Almas & Zelina Vega are interviewed backstage.
Almas says that Rey Mysterio was his idol, but last week he showed him times have changed and he is the future. Vega then says what year it is and that it is time to focus on the future. A future in which Almas beats Rey, wins The Royal Rumble and wins The WWE Championship at WrestleMania.
Samoa Joe vs. Mustafa Ali: Before the bell, Joe attacks Ali and beats him down at ringside. Joe continues to beat down Ali at ringside and he whips him hard into the ring post. Senior Official Charles Robinson comes out to help break it up. A medic starts checking on Ali, but Joe comes running back and continues the assault on Ali. Joe whips Ali into the ring post and then walks off and it looks like Joe is done now. Winner: No contest
We head backstage where Sonya Deville tells Mandy Rose that she is stressing her out and asks if she is sure she wants to give her hotel key out. Mandy says that she is sure and she just can’t stand Naomi, so if she can make her life the slightest bit more miserable, she will. Mandy then says that she is going to break Naomi’s marriage to Jimmy and she walks off, leaving Sonya with a very unsettling expression on her face.
Commentary then hypes up The Miz’s birthday bash for Shane McMahon.
We go backstage with Rey Mysterio walking when he runs across Nikki Cross shaking a chain link barrier and offering to play with him to send us to a commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and we get a hype reel for The Royal Rumble.
A recap of what we just saw took place during the last segment follows.
We head backstage where Samoa Joe is being interviewed and says that that wasn’t an attack, it was a statement, a declaration. Joe then says that he is entering his first Royal Rumble soon and he intends to win it. Joe then tells the rest of the roster that he will treat them with the same respect he just did Ali and he will hunt them down and put them to sleep.
Rey Mysterio vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas: Zelina Vega is at ringside for this one. Rey starts off strong with an arm drag on Andrade. Rey and Andrade trade holds on the mat now, until Rey connects with a springboard hurricanrana. Rey takes Almas down again, then he drops him across the ropes for the 619. Almas ducks the 619, then trades pin attempts with Rey on the mat. Almas hits a kick, but then he misses a dropkick and Rey boots him in the face. Rey takes Almas outside, but Almas keeps a hold of Rey and powerbombs him on the floor. Back in the ring, Rey comes back with a seating senton and a hurricanrana. Rey follows up with a DDT on Almas for a two count. Rey misses a shot in the corner and Almas hits the running knee in the corner for a two count. Almas misses a shot in the corner and both men are hurting now. Rey goes up top and hits a hurricanrana on Almas off the apron down to the ringside floor. Back in the ring, Rey hits a sit-out powerbomb for a two count. Almas comes back with a sit-out powerbomb of his own and then a spinning back elbow for a two count. Almas hits a moonsault next for another two count. Rey comes back with a version of the Canadian Destroyer for a two count of his own. Rey looks for the 619, but Almas blocks it. Rey comes back with a DDT and both men are down. Rey gets up first and hits a dropkick, then the 619. Rey goes up top, but Zelina Vega causes a distraction and Almas DDTs Rey off the turnbuckle for the three count. Winner: Andrade “Cien” Almas
After the match, Vega rushes into the ring to celebrate with Andrade. We go to replays. Andrade and Vega continue celebrating.
We get a recap of the earlier segment of The Usos as well as the segment of  Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville, then cut to Jimmy Uso walking down a hotel hallway. He gets to the door and pulls out the key card and we go to a commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and Jimmy Uso is still standing in front of the hotel room.
He knocks after some hesitation and uses the key to let himself in. He steps in and Mandy is seated on a chair in a short black robe, beckoning him to come closer. She says that the time to play hard to get is over and she takes the robe off to reveal her undergarments. She asks what he thinks and what his wife will think and Jimmy Uso says that he can’t do this and it needs to stop.
Rose has different ideas and a photographer busts in. Mandy then says that this isn’t about him, it is about how much she hates Naomi. She then calls Naomi a nobody that will never be as hot as her and everybody knows it. Mandy then says so when Naomi sees the photos, it will destroy her entire life.
Jimmy kinda shrugs it off and leaves, at which point Naomi comes in and beats Mandy’s Ass. Rose with a spear into the bed followed by some mounted punches. They then brawl to the floor and in front of the TV, hammering each other with right hands. Naomi yanks Mandy back into it and follows up with more mounted punches, but she gets thrown over the chair from earlier and Rose beats a retreat while Naomi is stunned. Jimmy Uso comes to check on Naomi and she is fine but she didn’t get Mandy like she wanted.
Commentary recaps the announcement of The Women’s Tag Team Titles from last night on RAW and runs through the card for The Royal Rumble to promote The WWE Network.
The Miz makes his entrance as his birthday bash for Shane McMahon is up next after the commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and the camera pans across the cakes and the presents The Miz has assembled for Shane McMahon’s birthday.
The Miz gets on the mic and welcomes us to the best birthday bash in the world and introduces Shane as one half of The Best Tag Team in The World. McMahon shuffles his way to the ring and The A-Lister wishes him a happy birthday on all our behalf. Shane thanks him and Birmingham and says that he appreciates it but he is a little uncomfortable with birthday parties.
The Miz asks if this looks like Chuck E. Cheese’s before saying that he called Shane’s favorite bakery and got two cakes, one of which McMahon points out has a picture of them on it. This is a segue to talk about The Best in The World trophy, which The Miz says he hopes means as much to him as this present does to Shane. McMahon opens the gift and it is sneakers that he is very excited about.
The A-Lister then points out that they match all the outfits he has devised and directs Shane to the tron for his next gift, which is a video package focused on Shane’s career and especially his story with The Miz over the last few months. McMahon thanks him and says that The Miz opening up makes him want to open up himself. Shane then says that ever since he was a kid, he always dreamt of being tag team champions, first with Andre The Giant, but he is very proud to be walking into Royal Rumble with The Miz as his partner.
The Miz then leads a singalong of “Happy Birthday” that is rudely interrupted by The Bar.
Sheamus says that that was embarrassing, but more embarrassing is that they didn’t invite the tag champs. Cesaro then says that it is more shameful that they didn’t invite Vince, but Sheamus points out that he doesn’t give a damn about Shane and just didn’t show up and claims that they will destroy them at The Royal Rumble. Shane fires back and says that they teamed up on The Miz last week and calls The Celtic Warrior out as a fake tough guy for Brogue Kicking The Miz while he wasn’t looking.
Shane then proposes to see how tough Sheamus is tonight in a Singles Match against The Miz right here and now. The A-Lister then protests by saying that he is wearing a suit, to which Shane says he wasn’t dressed when he won their trophy and pumps him up by listing off his accomplishments and furthermore it is his birthday wish, so The Miz agrees.
The match will happen after the commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and the match is underway.
The Miz vs. Sheamus: The birthday decorations and cakes are moved to the floor. Shane and Cesaro are both at ringside for this one. The opening bell sounds and Sheamus takes control in the opening moments of this one. Sheamus hits some shoulder strikes in the corner and then a running knee to the face. Sheamus rips off Miz’s shirt and hits the 10 Beats of the Baron on the apron. The Miz starts to fight back, but Sheamus shuts him down with a knee to the body. Sheamus misses a shot in the corner and Miz starts mounting a comeback. The Miz hits a series of dropkicks, but Sheamus comes back with a running forearm to the face of Miz. Cesaro hits a cheap shot on Miz behind the referee’s back. Shane gets involved and throws Cesaro through the table with the cake on it at ringside. This distracts Sheamus and Miz rolls up Sheamus from behind for the three count. Winner: The Miz
After the match, Sheamus attacks Miz but Shane runs in and makes the save. Shane drops Sheamus with the back elbow off the ropes. Miz with a Skull Crushing Finale to Sheamus. They position Sheamus in the corner as fans pop for a Coast 2 Coast. Shane goes to the top and hits the big move to Sheamus and a piece of cake in the corner. Graves calls it a Coast 2 Cake. They rub the cake in Sheamus’ face and start celebrating as Shane’s music hits. Shane brings The WWE World Cup Trophy in and they raise it together. Miz puts some cake in Shane’s face and they have a laugh together. Shane and Miz hug as the celebration continues. SmackDown goes off the air.
