The 2017 WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view will be taking place on Sunday, January 22nd at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
L.A. had long been considered the regular setting for SummerSlam until Brooklyn proved to be a major success last year by selling out three straight nights in a row. It was then that a decision was made that SummerSlam would not be in Los Angeles this year.
With SummerSlam now being considered the Brooklyn event, L.A. was left without one of the major WWE pay-per-views. The decision was made to move the Rumble to L.A., as WWE likes the tie-ins with celebrities and with the show being the annual kickoff point for the “Road to WrestleMania,” it was considered a perfect fit.
