Wijnaldum sends message to Liverpool fans amid Barcelona links

Georginio Wijnaldum hopes Liverpool supporters can “stay patient” as he tries to resolve his future at the club amid links to Barcelona.

There have been rumours for months that the Netherlands international will leave Anfield in the summer as he looks for a different challenge, with the Catalan giants understood to be the most likely destination.

A report at the end of February claimed that Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan were also interested as it looks likely he will leave Liverpool.

Wijnaldum has won Premier League and Champions League titles during his five years at Liverpool, making over 200 appearances in all competitions.

“If you’re a fan and you support the team – you support the player and what they do with me,” Wijnaldum told beIN Sports.

“You want to hear what’s going to happen but on the other side, for me, if there’s nothing to say and no news I cannot say something.

“I hope they can understand that and I hope they will stay patient until there’s news.

“The most important thing right now is that we fix things in the game as a team and we get results.

“Talking about an individual, in this case about me and my contract situation – because I just said there’s no news, I think we can focus on better things than on my situation.

“When there is news, we will bring it out.”

Liverpool lost their sixth Premier League home game on the bounce on Sunday when Fulham beat them 1-0 and Jurgen Klopp knows they cannot afford the slightest slip-up against RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday.

“We made mistakes still, that’s the problem. The boys don’t want to make mistakes, we just made them,” Klopp told reporters.

“We have to make sure the mistakes we make are not accountable any more.

“You can concede a goal – we conceded goals in our best phases, the best periods of our lives – but the only thing is then you are not bothered about it. That’s where we have to come (to).”
