Who are ‘the squad’, the US Congresswomen at the centre of the Trump row? 

Donald Trump sparked a race row after issuing a series of tweets over the weekend, in which he told a selection of Democratic congresswomen to "go back" to the countries they came from.  

Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ayanna Pressley, the liberal Congresswomen from minority-ethnic backgrounds known as "the squad", have hit back at the president’s remarks, which have been widely criticised as xenophobic and racist.

Three of the Congresswomen were born in the US, with the exception of Ms Omar, who became a US citizen aged 17. 

The four women often form a united Left-wing front to push for implementing progressive policies such as the Green New Deal and for expanding Medicare. …
