Update on the Main Event of SummerSlam, CONTAINS SPOILERS

The rumored main event for SummerSlam has been floating around for a few months now. If rumors are to be believed, it will likely be a match between Braun Strowman vs. Brock Lesnar for the Universal title as the main event of the show, however, that seemingly changed when Roman Reigns announced that he was going to be challenging the winner of the Samoa Joe vs. Brock Lesnar match at Great Balls of Fire to a match at SummerSlam for the title. Braun Strowman then returned from his injury and an ambulance match between he and Reigns was made official for the Great Balls of Fire show in two weeks. Some have questioned what the main event for SummerSlam will truly be.
Sportskeeda is reporting that Roman Reigns is actually not going to be named number one contender for the Universal Championship. Reigns is not expected to win his ambulance match against Strowman at Great Balls of Fire, thus Braun will likely have that spot given to him instead. Reportedly, the company has not decided on if Strowman will challenge Lesnar to a one-on-one singles match, or if Strowman and Lesnar will face each other in a Fatal 4-Way match with two other competitors. Lesnar could still face Reigns in the 4-Way match if they do decide to go in that direction, but the company could be leaning towards a singles match between Stowman and Lesnar.
Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman has been rumored for months now, and it seems like it will be happening in the near future. The ambulance match between Reigns and Strowman was going to take place at Extreme Rules, then Braun would win and go on to face Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire. Strowman’s injury caused plans to be pushed back by about a month, and Samoa Joe is expected to only face Lesnar in this one instance. It is possible that the company could put together the aforementioned 4-Way match between Lesnar, Strowman, Reigns, and Samoa Joe, but we’ll have to wait and see what direction they go in. Either way, don’t expect the Roman vs. Lesnar singles match to be pushed forward this year, that match is still being planned as the main event of Wrestlemania next year.
