Stephanie McMahon Speaks On Vince Receiving Death Threats

Before WWE became a global success, Vince McMahon’s competition with other American wrestling promoters was so fierce that he would receive death threats. Stephanie McMahon was recently at the Powerful Women Next Gen Summit in California where she told Fortune Magazine about her father’s stiff competition from other promoters.

“[Vince] was invading their territories, and getting better television coverage,” Stephanie said of WWE’s (then-WWF) expansion in the 1980’s. “He thought he had the better product, and ultimately, he did, and they didn’t take to kindly to that.”

It’s well-documented that other promoters had discussed the idea of having McMahon killed. Stephanie shared a story Vince had shared with her about someone threatening his life to his face.

“He told me a great story about a threat from a notorious gangster and being in this room, this old hotel, with the dark wooden panel walls and this big oversized man with a very unattractive face,” she said. “He was threatening my Dad’s life and my Dad was willing to stand up to him and all these different people to make his dreams come true.”

Stephanie also talks about delaying her book because it’s the first one from her family, and she wants to make it “bigger and better.” You can read her entire interview at Fortune.com.
