St. Cloud State Signs Recruits for 2014-15

St. Cloud, Minn. ~ The #4 ranked St. Cloud State University Huskies wrestling team has announced the additions of Larry Bomstad, Noah Cuzzetto, Vincent Giulio, Bryce Kirchner, Garret Miller, Nick Osowski and Brett Velasquez. All seven have signed letters of intent and will join the Black and Red for the 2014-15 season.
“I am very excited about the new additions to our team,” said Head Coach Steve Costanzo. This is an academically sound group of student-athletes with high skill levels. Combined with their academics and skill levels; they all possess strong work ethic and high character.”
Bomstad, hails from Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City High School where he is a four-time state placewinner. He won the 145-ound Class A state championship as a junior. He was runner-up at 145-pounds as a sophomore. Bomstad placed third at 140-pounds as a freshman and fifth at 130-pounds as an eighth grader. In addition, he is a two-time NHSCA Nationals Folkstyle All-American, winning a title as a sophomore and placing third as a junior. Bomstad is the #8 recruit in the country by Wrestling USA Magazine. He currently has a 182-16 high school record.
Lake Stevens High School and Lake Stevens, Wash. native, Cuzzetto will join the Huskies after winning the 4A Washington High School state championship in his sophomore and junior seasons. He was also named First Team Wesco Conference as a sophomore and junior years. Cuzzetto, respectfully, finished sixth and third at the tri-state tournament in his sophomore and junior seasons. He is currently the #28 recruit by Wrestling USA Magazine. He currently has a cumulative mark of 97-20.

Giulio compiled a 163-17 overall record en route to becoming the eighth wrestler in Idaho history to win four individual state titles. During his senior campaign, he posted a 42-0 mark with 37 pins to earn his second-straight state championship at 189 pounds and finish ranked seventh in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News. Giulio won the title at 160 pounds as a sophomore and at 135 as a freshman. Voted a team captain twice, he helped the Beavers capture three team state titles, while wrestling under his father Jim. In 2013, he was named NJCAA All-American while placing third in the nation for North Idaho College.
St. Cloud Apollo High School senior and St. Cloud, Minn. native, Kirchner, will join the Huskies after his senior season. An excellent student, Kirchner is a two-time MSHSL state participant finishing fifth in 3A at the 2013 State Championships. In 2012, he placed second in the prestigious Rumble on the Red Championships at 220-pounds. Kirchner is projected to wrestle at the 285-pound weight class for the Huskies.
Miller, a Kellogg, Minn. native and graduate of Plainview-Elgin-Millville High School compiled a 157-21 overall record. A four-time state entrant, he finished third in the MSHSL tournament in 2011 and 2012. Miller placed third at the 2013 NJCAA National Championship, and is currently ranked #2 in the NJCAA at 174-pounds. In 2013, he was also an NJCAA Academic All-American and is studying Environmental Science.
Oshkosh West High School senior and Oshkosh, Wisc. native, Osowski, will join the Huskies after finishing second in the DI WIAA state tournament with a record of 43-4. He is a two-time USAW national All-American and finished as runner-up in the 2013 Corn Cob nationals. Osowski, currently has a career mark of 104-26. An outstanding student, he plans on pursuing a major in U.S. Government and Politics. Osowski comes in as the #27 recruit in the country by Wrestling USA Magazine.
Velasquez, hails from Bennington, Neb., Bennington High School where he is a three-time NSAA Class B State Champion. Recently, he placed fourth at the Preseason Nationals in Cedar Falls, Iowa, earning All-American honors. Velasquez has a cumulative mark of 122-4 for his career. He is currently ranked first in his class academically, is a three time Academic All State in wrestling and is a member of the National Honor Society. Velasquez is the #11 recruit in the country according to Wrestling USA Magazine.
The Huskies will continue their season on Dec. 5 with a dual match at home against St. John’s University. The Huskies will be looking to break an NCAA Division II record with their 48th consecutive dual match victory on Dec. 5. The Huskies tied the current NCAA record of 47 consecutive wins last year with a 29-6 win over Minnesota State, Mankato on Feb. 14, 2013. SCSU has charted two consecutive 21-0 seasons and the last dual match loss for SCSU was an 18-13 loss on Jan. 27, 2011 against Augustana.
