Spurs to sell ‘difficult’ star despite ‘no hope’ of big fee

Spurs will sell Dele Alli in the summer transfer window despite knowing they will struggle to sell him for a good price, according to reports.

Alli has had a difficult season, having been frozen out under previous manager Jose Mourinho and coming close to a January exit.

But interim boss Ryan Mason, a former team-mate of Alli, has restored him to the starting line-up and it has paid dividends in recent matches with the England international putting in a couple of good performances.

Alli again started as Tottenham twice came from behind to beat Leicester City 4-2 at the King Power Stadium with the midfielder substituted after 68 minutes.

Despite starting their last five matches, Football Insider claims that Spurs are ‘planning to sell’ the former MK Dons playmaker this summer.

The Tottenham board ‘will listen to offers for Alli’ in the summer transfer window with his latest appearances doing little to convince them that he should stay.

The report adds that he is ‘difficult to manage behind the scenes and Spurs want to find a permanent buyer for him’ with the Premier League club hoping his recent displays have ‘showcased his talent to potential buyers at an opportune time’.

Football Insider adds that Tottenham have ‘no hope of securing a huge fee for a player who was regarded a few seasons ago as one of Europe’s brightest young stars’.

Following their victory over the Foxes, Alli posted a message to the Spurs fans on social media and promised to “come back fitter and stronger” next season.

Alli wrote on Twitter: “It goes without saying that this season has been the most difficult in my career so far. There have been some incredibly low moments and tough challenges I’ve had to face but I’m grateful to always have the opportunity to do what I love.

“This season has taught me I can’t take anything for granted and I’m more determined than ever to come back fitter and stronger. Thanks to the fans for the great support as always and look forward to seeing you all back in the stadiums next season.”
