Jamie Redknapp hailed the “energy” of Mason Mount in Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Fulham and named him among four players Frank Lampard can’t afford to drop.
Mount scored the only goal of the game as the Blues edged past Fulham in an unconvincing display at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
Early winner: Mason Mount, keeping Lampard in Chelsea hot seat
Redknapp highlighted the 22-year-old as one of a select number of players who Lampard must rely on.
“Energy, he [Mount] had energy,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“I looked at times today you’re thinking [Christian] Pulisic might do something, [Hakim] Ziyech had a couple of moments but not enough.
“But what Mason Mount did today is he set the tempo all game.
“Frank’s got a few players in that team right now that he will be picking every single week; he [Mount] is one, Mendy, Thiago Silva’s incredible, Chilwell.
“Apart from that, I think there’s only a few of them.”
“He [Mount] was the man today for Chelsea,” Redknapp added.
“From minute one, he wanted the ball, he made things happen, he was energetic, he pressed and then he obviously had this pivotal moment with a really important volley.
“That’s his first goal in 13 Premier League games, he needs to do that more. That’s something he can add because of his quality, even the strike he had first half.
“Frank knows it’s not just his goals and what he does, its the way that he sets the tempo and starts that press and that’s why he picks him week in, in week out.”
