Parker brushes aside Spurs rumours, commits future to Fulham

Scott Parker has insisted he’s “committed” to Fulham for the “foreseeable future”, despite speculation linking him to the managerial vacancy at his former club, Tottenham Hotspur.

Parker, 40, has earnt many plaudits for his work at Craven Cottage this season, with the Whites performing admirably at times but failing to get their just rewards, a frustrating theme that has led them to relegation.

However, amid tension between Parker and the club hierarchy, the Englishman has been linked with a move out of West London, and Spurs have been highlighted as a potential destination.

Parker made 50 appearances for the club, who sacked Jose Mourinho in April. On the rumours, he told West London Sport: “I’m committed here [at Fulham] and I see that being the same for the foreseeable future.”

Fulham will play their final Premier League game for at least one season against Newcastle on Sunday and will do so in front of a crowd of 2,000, who will be allowed into Craven Cottage for the first time since December.

Parker is relishing the return of supporters, who he hopes will provide the mental boost that will propel his side into ending their campaign on a high.

“Big positive of course,” he said of the fans’ return. “The season has been a very sterile one in stadiums. Certainly we’ve missed the supporters being in and around it; very hollow the stadiums we’ve played in.

“We had 2,000 fans for the Liverpool game, and it felt like it was packed out. We can’t wait, we are looking forward to our fans coming back.

“The forefront of our mind is going out with a good performance and hopefully some points.

“Our fans have always been very, very supportive of the team. They’ve backed us through everything.

“I have no doubt that this year if Craven Cottage had been full, that extra support that our fans would’ve given us would probably at times have been the difference that we needed. Certainly, for a team like us.

“This team have never let anyone down through a lack of effort, pride or professionalism. This is a group of players who have worked tirelessly this season to try their hardest to stay in this division.

“Where we have fallen short at times is maybe due to a lack of quality at this level. I am sure the fans will appreciate the players, even though they are disappointed.”
