This Sunday, Megyn Kelly will debut her show Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly on NBC. It’s one of the most anticipated news shows of the year due to a unique mix of a highly charged political climate and the booking of her first guest, Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
But before sitting down one-on-one with the president, she first met him in a group at a dinner party held at the Konstantin Palace prior to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. There she was also joined by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
For the very public meeting, she chose a blue velvet off-the-shoulder dress with black spaghetti straps and a thigh-high slit, a piece designed by Israeli designer Yigal Azrouël, which she paired with black ankle-strap peep-toe heels. The dress retails for $990 on the designer’s website. While a cocktail look may seem like an unlikely choice for this type of meeting, this was indeed before a state dinner, where dress was much more formal.
“I loved seeing it on Megyn,” Azrouël tells PeopleStyle of the news anchor’s choice to wear his design. “I am all about empowering woman to feel strong and confident and this dress is perfect for Megyn—it’s feminine yet chic and elegant and she looked fantastic in it.”

As for the choice of color for this event, Azrouël thought it was perfect for the anchor. “The color complements her skin and she looks radiant and chic,” he says. “Many of my customers are successful, powerful women and this dress has been a hit because it makes them feel confident and feminine.”

Asked if the off-the-shoulder look is too revealing, he says go for it: “My tip for women is not to be afraid of showing a little bit of skin. Femininity exudes confidence.”
On Friday, at the International Economic Forum, Kelly opted for something a little more business casual than the glamorous outfit she wore to the dinner party the night before.

The reporter moderated the panel wearing a monochromatic look consisting of a black top with white bell sleeves, belted at the waist with a white grommeted belt and paired with flared white jeans and practical black heels.
Kelly’s show will debut on NBC Sunday, June 4 at 7 p.m. ET.
