Man Utd have ‘perfect opportunity’ to replace De Gea – Owen

Michael Owen thinks Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has the “perfect opportunity” to replace David de Gea with Dean Henderson in net.

Henderson came off the bench at half-time in the Red Devils’ 3-2 victory over Southampton on Sunday after De Gea picked up a knock when trying to stop James Ward-Prowse’s free-kick.

The England international spent a successful season on loan at Sheffield United last season and it was rumoured that he would be brought back to take over from De Gea, who had a number of questionable performances last term.

The Spaniard retained the number one jersey, though, and now former Man Utd striker Owen reckons it’s “the time” to give Henderson a run of matches.

“If you are thinking about changing the goalkeeper, this is the time,” the former Red Devils striker told the Premier League.

“I don’t think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants confrontation, I don’t think he wants to drop him.

“But in this situation, all of a sudden, ‘hey, you went off injured and he has done nothing wrong’.

“It is the perfect opportunity. If he had any of those thoughts over the last few months when mistakes were made, now is your time.”
