Man City star to be ‘sacrificed’ for £225m double swoop

Manchester City will reportedly ‘sacrifice’ Bernardo Silva this summer to raise funds to sign both Harry Kane and Jack Grealish this summer.

Reports on Thursday suggested Daniel Levy will allow Kane to leave the club if City stump up £160million for the talismanic striker.

Various reports have claimed City would also be willing to splash £100million to lure Grealish away from Aston Villa.

It’s not entirely clear then how The Sun came up with a figure of £225million that the club need to raise to sign both players.

Anyway, the one player said to be put up for sale – the ‘sacrifice’ – is Bernardo Silva.

The Portuguese playmaker started 24 Premier League games under Pep Guardiola last season and is frequently rotated with the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Ferran Torres.

But the 26-year-old started all of City’s knockout Champions League games, including their final defeat to Chelsea; he’s been a key part of the squad since joining from Monaco in the summer of 2017.

The report claims Silva is keen on a move to Spain; Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have previously been credited with an interest.

City have already sold Jack Harrison to Leeds United for around £11m, while striker Lukas Nmecha recently completed a move to Wolfsburg for a similar fee.

Several other young players could also be sold to raise cash this summer, with winger Morgan Rogers linked with a £7million move to Crystal Palace, Pedro Porro with Sporting Lisbon and Ivan ilic with Hellas Verona.

And £16million-rated Yangel Herrera, who played 32 games on loan at Granada last season, is on the radar of both Leeds and West Ham.

City are also set to receive some spending money when Jadon Sancho completes his £72.9m move to rivals Manchester United.

When Sancho joined Borussia Dortmund from City’s academy back in 2017, the Bundesliga side forked out just £8m.

But the deal also contained a 15% sell on clause, meaning City are set to bank around £10m of the £72.9m fee Dortmund have agreed with United.

Sancho has already completed a medical and agreed terms on a five-year deal and that the signing could be officially confirmed before the end of the week.
