Man City plan £100m Grealish bid but Villa to stand firm

Manchester City want Jack Grealish but Aston Villa are reportedly determined to keep hold of their captain and have opened talks over a new contract.
Reports on Friday claim City are readying a formal offer for Grealish, thought to be in the region of £100million.
But the Guardian claim Villa have opened contract talks with the 25-year-old last week, just nine months after he committed to a new five-year deal.
The club have completed the signings of Emi Buendia and Ashley Young based around the belief that Grealish would be remaining at Villa Park.

And the Villa bosses have reportedly made it clear to the playmaker’s agency that they have no intention of selling their star man.
But City are unlikely to be deterred and are said to be willing to offload both Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez to raise cash and open up space in their wage bill for the England international.
They are also thought to be changing their approach in their chase for Spurs wantaway Harry Kane in order to land Grealish this summer.
A move to City would see Grealish play alongside Kevin de Bruyne, a player he holds in the highest of regards.
Grealish told VillaTV: “I’m half starstruck when I play against Kevin de Bruyne because he’s my favourite player ever. I think he’s unbelievable, I think he’s easily the best player in the Premier League at the moment.
“He’s someone I personally look up to at the moment and try and, not base my game on him, but try and take stuff from his game and put that into mine.”
And the admiration is mutual.
De Bruyne spoke previously about how Grealish was well deserving of an opportunity to showcase his skills on the international stage following his performances in the Premier League.
“I rate him very highly,” said the Belgian. “He’s somebody I mentioned before, talking to the teammates at City, in a random conversation.

“In England they talked about creative problems in midfield, but he brings that to a team. He deserves a shot.”
