Liverpool enquire over Mbappe after Madrid boost

Liverpool have reportedly made contact with Paris Saint-Germain over the availability of Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe is yet to sign a new contract with PSG and thus, speculation over his future continues.

Reports this week suggest Mbappe has ‘asked to leave’ the French giants and Liverpool have been put on ‘transfer alert’.

And Marca now claim the Reds have ‘made contact’ over a summer move.

Mbappe is out of contract in the summer of 2022, which makes a move more likely as PSG will not want to allow their star asset to leave for free in a year’s time.

Rules stipulate the striker would be allowed to talk to propective suitors in January.

PSG could then be willing to enter talks with clubs over a move this summer if Mbappe refuses to sign a contract extension.

Despite the proximity of the end of his contract, any offer would have to be astronomical – close to £200million.

Liverpool would therefore have to sell to buy and Mohamed Salah is one of the star’s who has been tipped to be made available to raise the funds for Mbappe.

Real Madrid are the other team consistently linked, but Cadena Ser claim they have given up hope due to financial constraints.

Mbappe has refused to rule out a move.

“I need to take the right decision, which is hard, and give myself the best opportunity to decide well,” said Mbappe.

“I am somewhere where I’m happy, I feel good. But is it the best place for me? I don’t yet have an answer.”

PSG chief executive Nasser Al-Khelaifi issued a statement earlier this month stating that the World Cup winner is going nowhere.

The France forward has been heavily linked with Real Madrid and Liverpool over the last year, but Al-Khelaifi warned he would never be sold.

“I will be clear: Kylian will be staying in Paris,” Al-Khelaifi told French outlet L’Equipe. “We are never going to sell him, and he will never leave for free.

“I never give details to the press about ongoing negotiations. All I can say is that it is coming along nicely.

“I hope that we will find a common ground. It is Paris, Kylian’s country and he has a mission: not just to be a football player, but to promote the French league, his country and the capital city.”
