Kane will show commitment to Tottenham, says Mourinho

Jose Mourinho says Harry Kane’s commitment to Tottenham cannot be questioned – but would only go as far as confirming it up until Sunday.
Kane has been the subject of intense speculation over the international break, with Jermain Defoe, Danny Murphy and Robbie Savage among those suggesting he should leave Spurs in the pursuit of silverware.
The striker has three years remaining on his contract but will again finish the season trophy-less should Tottenham lose out to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.
On the back of another prolific season at club level, the 27-year-old has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid.
Kane did little to dispel the rumours when quizzed about a potential move away from Spurs while on international duty.
“Look, I try to stay out of that speculation as much as possible. I’m fully focused on doing the job on the pitch from now until the end of the summer and then we’ll see where we go from there.”
However, when asked about the striker’s future, Mourinho refused to add fuel to the fire, saying his only concern was the quality of Kane’s performances on the pitch.
He said: “I cannot play that game. I have to focus on what he is for us. Of course I’m always pleased with my players when they go to international games but I cannot play that game.
“I can only focus on what he does for us and the effort he put in for us at Villa, the effort he put in for England, and the match at Newcastle and whether playing well or not, he will be there for the team.”
And when asked whether he would have preferred Kane to be more unequivocal about his future plans, Mourinho would only look as far ahead as Sunday and a trip to relegation-haunted Newcastle.
“No, no. I want Harry to be with us what he has been. I want Harry to repeat against Newcastle the same performance he had against Aston Villa, the same commitment, desire and leadership. I know he will.”
