Has Roman promised Lampard two Chelsea seasons?

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly reassured Frank Lampard that he will get two whole seasons as Blues manager if he takes the job at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard will leave Derby County – with Chelsea paying the club around £4m in compensation – and take over at the Europa League champions, replacing the Juventus-bound Maurizio Sarri.

The Englishman faces an uphill struggle at the club as Abramovich is the absent father and Chelsea the spoiled child.

Sarri will become the latest Chelsea manager to last less than two seasons when he leaves for Italy this month, though Chelsea will at least publicly insist that they would have retained his services next season.

The Sunday Times now claim that Abramovich has reassured Lampard that he will get time to implement changes at Chelsea, though the Telegraph claim that the appointment awaits the ‘ultimate sanction’ from the Russian.

They claim that Lampard will bring his backroom staff from Derby, which will be supplemented by the returns of Claude Makelele – possibly in a role managing the club’s loan army – and Petr Cech.
