Gossip: Solskjaer’s ‘dream’ Man Utd signing, Wenger’s next job

SOLSKJAER’S ‘DREAM’ SIGNING
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken of his wish to reinforce his impotent attack in January but it seems like the Manchester United boss is pissing squarely into the wind if there’s anything in the latest whispers.

The Evening Standard reckons Jadon Sancho remains Solskjaer’s ‘dream’ signing but if he thinks the Borussia Dortmund forward is gettable in January, he can dream on. And as talented as Sancho is, he is certainly not the centre-forward United are so desperately lacking.

The same goes for James Maddison. Apparently, Solskjaer has ordered his scouting department to keep tabs on the Leicester playmaker which seems like something they should have been doing anyway, but okay.

Going back to Sancho; Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc admits that he doesn’t see a long-term future for Sancho with the Bundesliga club. “You don’t have to be a prophet to know that he won’t play here for another five years,” he’s told Kicker. United are said to hold the strongest interest but when the time comes, possibly next summer, there is expected to be plenty of competition for the England winger and he won’t come cheap.

MANDZUKIC EYED BY MLS
In the meantime, United continue to be linked with Mario Mandzukic primarily because he is available. The Juventus striker hasn’t played a minute of senior football this season but he seems to be the leading candidate for a January move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils, though, could have competition for the 33-year-old. Calciomercato claims MLS side LAFC are also keen on the Croatian.

WENGER AMONG AC MILAN CANDIDATES
Marco Giampaolo hasn’t been sacked yet but AC Milan are already said to be drawing a list of possible replacements.

Rather, Gazzetta dello Sport has drawn up a list for them. And on it is Arsene Wenger. Or ‘great old Wenger’ as their story calls him.

On their list of ‘not very credible’ options are Max Allegri and Luciano Spalletti while Claudio Ranieri is listed among the ‘more affordable’ candidates.

AND THE REST
Jan Vertonghen could sign a new deal with Spurs… Man Utd are linked with a January move for Vertonghen’s central defensive partner Toby Alderweireld… Arsenal will watch RB Salzburg teenager Dominik Szoboszlai against Liverpoo… Juventus and Inter Milan both want Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic in January… Roma are eyeing Wolves winger Adama Traore.
