First Round Results in WWE’s Tournament to Crown Smackdown’s Greatest Star

The first round of WWE’s ongoing Twitter tournament to decide the greatest Superstar in Smackdown history has concluded, with 16 names moving on to the quarterfinals.

The bracket is divided into four regions, represented by former Smackdown General Managers Paige, Vickie Guerrero, Teddy Long and Paul Heyman. Here’s how the first round broke down:

John Cena def. Kevin OwensTriple H def. Jeff HardyKane def. SheamusBecky Lynch def. Dolph ZigglerRey Mysterio def. JBLEddie Guerrero def. EdgeAJ Styles def. Booker TAlexa Bliss def. Big EBatista def. The MizThe Rock def. Kurt AngleCharlotte Flair def. Xavier WoodsBig Show def. Kofi KingstonUndertaker def. ChristianDaniel Bryan def. Mark HenryBrock Lesnar def. Michelle McCoolRandy Orton def. Matt Hardy

Looking ahead to the second round, John Cena or Triple H seem the odds-on favorite to advance to the semifinals. Becky Lynch does have a huge social fanbase that are generally much younger and more likely to engage with these types of things, so you never know.

Despite being relatively new in the grand scheme AJ Styles will likely advance to face what will be a close race between fan favorites Mysterio and Guerrero. Batista was one of the greatest world champions in Smackdown history but he’s up against The Rock, who the show is literally named after. I see The Rock taking this bracket with ease.

Finally we’ve gone some heavy hitters in the Heyman region. Undertaker’s the obvious choice but Daniel Bryan is ridiculously popular. Randy Orton’s got the longevity, but Brock Lesnar is Brock Lesnar. My money is on Undertaker going over The Rock to face John Cena, over Becky Lynch, in the finals.
