Ferdinand disagrees with 'far-fetched' Mendes: Man Utd can't be happy with Mourinho!

The ex-Red Devils and England defender has questioned the statement which claimed the club are happy with the Portuguese coach

Former defender Rio Ferdinand has rubbished the claim that Manchester United are happy with the job being done by Jose Mourinho.

Agent Jorge Mendes released a statement on behalf of the Portuguese coach on Friday which dismissed speculation his departure from Old Trafford was imminent .

He added that United were content with the job being done by Mourinho, and that the ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid boss wants to stay – with two years remaining on his contract.

But Ferdinand feels the clarification does not reflect reality and feels Mourinho is significantly underperforming.

Speaking on BT Sport, he said: “I know Jorge very well. He’s a lovely fella. He is looking after his client obviously.

“But I wouldn’t say the word ‘happy’ would come into a sentence when you’re talking about where Man United are at this stage of the season and the state they’re in. It is a bit farfetched.

“He came in Mourinho, won three trophies in his first season, stabilised the place but I don’t think Man United have moved on since then.”

One recurring theme of the campaign has been Mourinho’s continued complaints over his lack of resources in the transfer market.

Eleven new signings have arrived across the five windows with over £362 million ($460m) spent during that period.

And as a result, Ferdinand has questioned those protestations and feels Mourinho has had ample opportunity to impose his own ideas on the United squad.

“He has moaned about the players and certain players in his team but he’s had a few transfer windows to make that right now,” the six-time Premier League winner added.

“Unfortunately some of the players that he has bought in we are seeing them on the bench.

“Pogba, Lukaku, Sanchez isn’t fit, Fred isn’t featuring, Lindelof and Bailly are not ready-made starters in this term. These are all signings he made that are not playing in the first team.

“So to be moaning that he hasn’t got the right players or whatnot, he’s had a few windows to make that right.”
