If we leave it up to department store Debenhams, we stay fit throughout the year. The retail store is launching a £4 million of Free Sport programme providing 50,000 free Personal Training sessions and 250,000 free exercise sessions nationwide. These sessions are available in local authority gyms and leisure centres to mobilise as many of the local community as possible.
On Friday 4th September, Bear Grylls is appearing at Debenhams Oxford Street, dressed in his Bear Grylls Survival range of clothing for Craghoppers to launch Debenhams ‘£4 million of Free Sports’ initiative. By setting up camp in the main entrance window of Debenhams Oxford Street, Bear will be encouraging aspiring adventurers to get active. After the photo call, Bear will be on hand to sign autographs in the Sport & Leisure department, which is located on the fourth floor.
The free personal training session includes a health and fitness consultation with a trainer qualified to national standard as well as advice in specific areas such as weight loss, nutrition and postnatal training. Following on, shoppers can try out free beginner to advanced sessions in sports including tennis, yoga, dance, gymnastics, aerobics and swimming in their local area.
Bear is renowned for his love of adventure. After breaking his back in three places in a parachuting accident, he fought his way to recovery, and two years later entered the Guinness Book of Records as the youngest Briton to climb Mount Everest, aged only 23. He has since led ground-breaking expeditions across the world as well as writing books about his experiences and hosting TV shows across the world.
In 2009 Bear was voted by the Scouts to become their Chief Scout and figurehead to nearly 500,000 Scouts in the UK. He became the youngest Chief Scout in history.
Sport & Leisure department is in 41 Debenhams stores nationwide as well as on Debenhams.com.
