F4W NEWSLETTER: Figure Four Weekly: Matt Riddle’s future starts to become clear 

It may have been a bit delayed, but Matt Riddle signing with WWE seems all but inevitable at this point. Riddle dropping the EVOLVE Championship to Shane Strickland at EVOLVE 108 this past weekend is only the latest indication of that. When Riddle pulled out of OTT’s SummerSlam weekend shows in Ireland, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE had reconsidered its position on Riddle.

In an emotional episode of his podcast, Jerry Lawler opened up about the death of his son, Brian Christopher Lawler. Jerry said they had spoken to the sheriff before Brian’s death, and the sheriff assured him that jail would be the best place for Brian, that he would personally keep an eye on him, and that Brian would be safe there. Jerry continued to express doubt over whether Brian committed suicide. He said they’ve spoken to inmates who were in jail with Brian who don’t believe the story.
Ronda Rousey spoke to Sports Illustrated about the advice that Vince McMahon gave her before WrestleMania: “I usually walk out and I’m all business, but Vince specifically told me to go out and allow myself to feel everything that I was feeling and not hide anything. And not to try and go out and be the tough girl, but to allow myself to smile, to enjoy it because, according to Vince, when I smile the whole world wants to hug me.”
Karl Anderson and his wife welcomed their fourth son into the world this morning. The baby is named Cash and was born at 11:02 a.m.
WWE Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander vs. Jack Gallagher in a non-title match and Lio Rush vs. Akira Tozawa are set for next week’s 205 Live.
Britt Baker defeated Tesha Price in a dark match at tonight’s Mae Young Classic tapings.
Miz & Mrs. averaged 1,225,000 total viewers on the USA Network last night, along with posting a 0.47 rating in the 18-49 demo. Last week’s episode averaged 1,303,000 viewers and a 0.46 rating.
This may not mean much, but the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas is advertising Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton for WWE’s September 16 Hell in a Cell PPV.
Today is NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler’s 38th birthday.
Hulk Hogan took a picture with WWE Performance Center wrestlers Shadia Bseiso and Nasser Al Ruwayeh while at SmackDown in Orlando last night.
Asuka & Naomi defeated Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville in last night’s pre-SmackDown dark match. AJ Styles & Jeff Hardy defeated Samoa Joe & Randy Orton after 205 Live.
Rey Mysterio spoke to the Miami Herald about being one of the pre-order bonus characters for WWE 2K19. Mysterio said nothing is official on him re-signing with WWE yet.

The HonorClub presale for ROH/NJPW G1 Supercard tickets began today ahead of April’s show at Madison Square Garden. ROH COO Joe Koff issued a statement to Post Wrestling and noted that 60 percent of the tickets have already been sold: “We are currently 60% sold with general public for sale on Friday!” That general public sale will begin at 10 a.m. Eastern on Friday.
Tickets for Bound for Glory 2018 will go on sale to the general public at 1 p.m. Eastern on August 25. Impact Wrestling will also be holding an on-sale party at Peterson’s Tavern in Binghamton, New York at 12 p.m. Eastern on August 25, where tickets will first be available. Bound for Glory is taking place at the Melrose Ballroom in Queens on October 14.
Pentagon Jr. vs. Sami Callihan in a Mexican Death Match has been announced for Impact’s TV tapings at the Rebel Entertainment Complex in Toronto on Sunday.
After Tetsuya Naito defeated SANADA in the G1 this morning, EVIL brought Hiromu Takahashi’s jacket down to the ring. Naito mentioned that Takahashi wasn’t with them and said he doesn’t know whether Takahashi will be back from his neck injury soon or a while from now. He told Takahashi to come back as soon as he can, the Los Ingobernables de Japon members fist bumped, and Naito fist bumped Takahashi’s jacket. Takahashi posted a picture of himself fist bumping the TV screen to join in with the rest of LIJ.
Jazzy Gabert tweeted about not being in this year’s Mae Young Classic: “I wish I was somewhere else today, but it wasn’t in my hands! While I’m thinking about these girls heaving the time of their life, I do what I do best.. leg training today!”
PROGRESS Wrestling co-owner Jim Smallman said that Chris Brookes & Jonathan Gresham vs. LAX at last night’s PROGRESS show in New York was one of the best tag matches that he’s ever seen.

Dana White said that The Ultimate Fighter will continue when the UFC moves to ESPN/ESPN+.
White also said Georges St-Pierre facing the winner of Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov probably isn’t going to happen. White said the UFC’s PPV in Toronto in December makes sense for GSP’s return.
Nate Diaz sent out another anti-UFC tweet last night: “I can’t commit when they actin like sh*t…”
Dustin Poirier doesn’t think that his fight against Diaz is in jeopardy.
Greg Hardy defeated Taboris Gordon by knockout in 17 seconds on last night’s Dana White Tuesday Night Contender Series season two finale.
Ariel Helwani reported that Derrick Lewis vs. Alexander Volkov has been verbally agreed to. It will be the co-main event for UFC 229, which is being headlined by Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Joseph Benavidez vs. Ray Borg will take place at UFC’s Fight Night show in Denver on November 10 instead of at UFC 229.
Aaron Pico vs. Leandro Higo is set for Bellator 206 in San Jose on September 29.

This year’s event will be taking place in Las Vegas from August 16th to the 20th and will again be in conjunction with WWE’s SummerSlam weekend a.k.a. Super China Buffet Day~! There will still be the usual events, but our big draw will be WWE’s summer blockbuster PPV, SummerSlam.
