Conte names his ‘one condition’ for taking Tottenham job

Antonio Conte has suggested that he will only take the Tottenham Hotspur job if Harry Kane stays beyond this summer, according to reports.

Spurs have been on the lookout for a new manager since the departure of Jose Mourinho. Ryan Mason has been in interim charge since the former Chelsea boss left.

Under Mason, they lost in the Carabao Cup final and he guided them to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League.

Antonio Conte to Spurs? It’s doomed but it’s irresistible

Graham Potter and Ralf Rangnick have been among those linked with the vacant Spurs job.

Reports emerged on Wednesday which suggested that Spurs had opened talks with Conte to replace Mourinho.

The 51-year-old won the Premier League and FA Cup with Chelsea. He left the Blues in 2018 and he took over at Inter Milan a year later.

Milan finished second in Serie A behind Juventus in his first season. They topped this in 2020/21 as they won their first league title since 2010.

Despite this, Conte and Inter Milan parted ways at the end of the season. This came as a result of disagreements over finances.

The Italian has been linked with Real Madrid and Everton in recent days. Madrid appointed Carlo Ancelotti, which leaves the Toffees without a manager.

Simon Jordan has suggested that “serial winner” Conte should not go to Everton:

“With respect to Conte, he is a serial winner, why does he need to take a project?

“What’s the project for him? What is he, a philanthropic? I really like Merseyside, I’d go to Everton and see what I can spin my wheels over there.

“He has just won Serie A with Inter Milan.

“He causes chaos wherever he goes and he gets paid for it, but he wins.

“What’s he going to go to Everton for?”

Tottenham are “increasingly confident of appointing” Conte in the coming days.

The Times have now reported that Conte will only take the Spurs job if he “receives assurances” that Kane will stay at the club.

Man United and Man City are leading the race to sign Kane. The England forward has openly stated that he wants to win team trophies.
