City ready to sell two to fund £80m bid for Man Utd target

Manchester City are prepared to sell two players in order to finance a move for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire, according to reports.

Neighbours Manchester United are understood to have made Maguire their primary target for the summer transfer window but with less than three weeks left a deal is yet to be struck.

It has been suggested that a fee of as much as £90m could be demanded by the Foxes as they stand firm on their prized asset, while United are thought to be unwilling to pay that much for the England international.

And now a report in the Daily Star brings City back into the race for Maguire by saying that City are ‘still in the hunt’ but they must sell before they buy.

The Citizens are ‘wary of Financial Fair Play regulations’ and need to ‘balance the books’ before competing for Maguire’s signature.

The report continues by saying City are hoping to offload Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala ‘fast’ or risk missing out on the Leicester defender.

It continues by saying both City and United have had £70m bids rejected so far for Maguire and that City are ‘increasingly desperate’ to get rid of Otamendi and Mangala to fund another bid of £80m.

Mangala will be allowed to leave for nothing – after being loaned out for three consecutive seasons – while Otamendi could be sold back to Valencia for ‘around a third’ of the £28m City paid for him in 2015.
