According to a report by PWInsider.com, a major championship match is now no longer going to take place at the upcoming WWE Royal Rumble.
The ongoing tournament to determine a new United States Champion was set to finish at the WWE Royal Rumble, with the final happening at the PPV.
That now no longer appears to be the plan according to this report. Whether WWE has decided to do this for time cuts or to allow more stars to appear in the Rumble itself remains unclear.
According to the same report, the final will now take place during the WWE SmackDown Live show before the Rumble at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., meaning there will be a new United States Champion crowed before the show.
The tournament is taking place after Dolph Ziggler vacated the belt and walked out on SmackDown Live. The semi-finals are both set for tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown Live with Mojo Rawley vs. Bobby Roode and Xavier Woods vs. Jinder Mahal.
