Carragher suggests new position for Liverpool to improve on

Jamie Carragher has suggested a new area for Liverpool to improve on this season as they aim to retain the Premier League title.

The club has had a fairly quiet transfer window so far, with Kostas Tsimikas their only signing.

The Greece international joined for £11.75 million from Olympiacos to provide Andy Robertson with competition at left back.

The Anfield club is also leading the chase to sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich, although no deal has been agreed just yet.

However, Carragher thinks that Liverpool should focus on improving their attacking options: “I feel if one of the front three were to go down with a serious injury, that would really hurt Liverpool. They would find it really difficult to go on and win the league.

“I think [they need] someone to really challenge the front three. It just needs that little bit of a freshen up, not so much the starting XI but just that little bit of impetus.

“Maybe if Thiago came in you’d say that he’d add something different but for me the front three is vital.”

One potential forward they could sign is Jeremy Doku from Anderlecht. Liverpool have reportedly renewed their interest in the Belgian after showing him around their training ground three years ago.

Speaking about Thiago, Carragher went on to say: “I know everyone’s getting excited about Thiago coming in. I think the excitement comes because he’s completely different to what Liverpool have in midfield.

“Liverpool have plenty of numbers in midfield [and] in terms of a style of player, so Thiago could add something completely different.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is also thought to be an admirer of Dortmund youngster Giovanni Reyna. Reyna is being scouted by the club to see whether he can develop into a future star.

Fans will be encouraged by Klopp’s strong ties with Dortmund, whom he managed from 2008-2015.
