British Fashion Awards crowns UK talent

It was an evening full of surprises at the British Fashion Awards, which
were hosted at the London Coliseum on Monday evening. The big wins on the
night saw Canadian-born Erdem Moralioglu taking home Designer of the Year
and new Loewe creative head JW Anderson crowned Menswear Designer of the
Year.

Anna Wintour received Outstanding Achievement Award

US Vogue editor Anna Wintour received an Outstanding Achievement award,
presented to her by John Galliano, who in his speech thanked Wintour and
said she “reached out to me when I had become an outcast. No words can
express my gratitude to her.”

Elsewhere Victoria Beckham was awarded Brand of the Year and Anya Hindmarch
won Accessories Brand of the Year.

International Designer was Nicolas Ghesquière in honour of his first year
at the helm of Louis Vuitton. The French luxury house also won the award
for best Creative Campaign.

Marques’Almeida was awarded Emerging Womenswear as Craig Green took the
Emerging Menswear prize. Emerging Accessory Designer went to a former WGSN
fashion editor Anna Laub for her eyewear brand Prism.

The Model of the Year Award went to Cara Delevingne, presented to her by
her sister Poppy Delevigne, having fronted campaigns for Burberry, Chanel,
Fendi and H&M, while Emma Watson won the public vote as most stylish
celebrity.

Red Carpet Designer was Alexander McQueen

The late professor Louise Wilson was honoured during the ceremony with a
lineup of models wearing looks by designers she had taught as course
director for the M.A. fashion program at Central Saint Martins. Models wore
looks by designers including Christopher Kane and Mary Katrantzou, while
the soundtrack featured “Remember Me” by Diana Ross, and words from Samuel
L. Jackson.

The Special Recognition award went to veteran fashion photographer Chris
Moore; the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator was presented W Magazine
style director Edward Enninful; New Establishment award went to Simone
Rocha.
