EVOLVE Champion Austin Theory defeated WWN Champion JD Drake in the semi-main event of Saturday night’s EVOLVE 10th Anniversary special, streaming live on the WWE Network. In doing so, the stand-out independent star became a double champion, effectively unifying the titles.
It was a historic night for the promotion, but Drake – who has reportedly been on WWE’s radar for quite some time – has no interest in carrying his newly won WWN title with pride. After winning the match, the 21-year-old sensation (yes, you read that correctly) threw down the belt and claimed that the EVOLVE Championship will be the true measuring stick going forward.
Theory may not have to wait long before finding out who his next challenger is though. Just moments after winning the belts and making his defiant statement, the lights in the historic 2300 Arena went out, and when they came back on, Theory received a chokeslam from the monstrous Josh Briggs, who scored a victory over Anthony Greene to open the night.
