Atletico Madrid will rival Man Utd for the signature of Dayot Upamecano next summer, according to sources.
The centre back is one of the hottest prospects in the world after breaking into the first team at RB Leipzig.
He’s been targeted by Man Utd in recent months to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer more options in defence.

But it now looks like Atletico will bid for the player during the 2021 summer transfer window, according to Spanish outlet AS (via the Daily Star).
Upamecano’s latest contract includes a £38 million clause which becomes active at the end of this season.
That means one of Europe’s elite teams can sign the 21-year-old for a relatively low fee in time for the 2021/22 campaign.
Without the release clause, it’s thought a deal for Upamecano could cost up £70 million. He’s seen as the next big defensive talent alongside Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt.
Man Utd are believed to see the player as a long term solution for current centre backs Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof. Given his young age, £38 million could be a great investment for the club.
However, Atletico’s interest in the player will cause some issues. The Spanish side are known for their strong defensive capabilities, meaning Upamecano may see them as a good next step.
A move to Atletico would also give him the chance to impress Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, among others.
If Man Utd and Atletico fail in their attempts to sign Upamecano, his teammate Ibrahima Konate could be a good alternative.
Konate is another French 21-year-old who also plays at centre back. He’s already made 74 appearances for RB Leipzig and looks like a promising young player.
Both Man Utd and Atletico have been fairly quiet during the transfer window so far. Alvaro Morata joined Atletico permanently at the end of his loan spell, while Donny van de Beek signed for United from Ajax.
