Arsenal need smarts to deal with danger, admits Mustafi following Manchester United draw

Unai Emery’s side twice surrendered their lead at Old Trafford and their centre-back acknowledges they need to deal with threats in a smarter fashion
Arsenal must be “clever” going forward in how they respond to danger, says Shkodran Mustafi following the Gunners’ 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
Unai Emery’s side surrendered their lead twice in quick order against the Red Devils at Old Trafford, missing out on the chance to record a first win at the Theatre of Dreams for 12 years.
The north London outfit have been one of the highlights of the Premier League season so far, with Emery injecting a flair absent from the club in their recent seasons under the departed Arsene Wenger.
But having been unable to put Jose Mourinho’s beleaguered United to the sword in the way they dispatched Tottenham at the weekend, centre-back Mustafi admitted that Arsenal could show a little more intellect in dealing with counter-attacking threat.
“I think the second half of the game up a little bit with both teams trying to win,” the Germany international told BT Sport post-match.
“I think that’s where we have to be a little more clever, and a little bit more sensitive to danger and not concede.
“At the end of the day, I think we did quite well to come [away with a draw]. Old Trafford is not an easy place to win. We tried everything to take the three points with us home.
“You have to see it that we had two big games, Tottenham on the weekend and Man Utd away, and we took four points from [them]. I think we can move on from that.”
Mustafi also refused to use Arsenal’s high-intensity derby clash with Spurs as an excuse for their failure to capture victory in Manchester, adding: “They had a game at the weekend too.
“I think obviously when you play a derby, you are quite in it and you probably give 120 per cent.
“But we are not here today to look for excuses. We could have done better today, we had a lot of opportunities when we were going forward.
“I think if we are a little bit lucky, we can get all three points but we have to take that one point. It was important not to lose and we didn’t, and as I said before, now we have to move on from here.”
