Mikel Arteta is desperate to land a new defensive midfielder ahead of Arsenal’s new season, and Roma’s Amadou Diawara has emerged as his new top target.
Thomas Partey was top of his wish list, but the Gunners are reluctant to pay the Atletico star’s release clause.
Two sources, Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport claim Diawara is now Arteta’s No.1 option, according to Sport Witness.
Gazzetta claims Roma boss Paulo Fonseca will sanction a deal for Diawara if Arsenal offer up Lucas Torreira as a makeweight.

But Corriere states that Roma ‘would prefer only money’, with Arsenal also preferring a straight player-for-cash deal.
The figure touted is thought to be around €30million, a figure Roma ‘will of course accept given the economic convenience’.
Should the deal go through Arsenal ‘will have in depth medical examinations to assess the condition of the torn meniscus’ he suffered in January.
