On the prom day make sure that all of the vendors that you might have to get last minute stuff from are open! Such as florists, dress shops, tuxedo places etc. Be sure to make a list of what you need so you don't forget anything!

Why? well think about what you are raising money for (Prom) which is a Formal School Dance.  So if you have a poorly planned school dance fundraiser for your prom, it may actually hurt your attendance. 

Why? Well Students may think you hired the same bad DJ for Prom and decide to save their money, may just think they wasted $5-$25 bucks and get mad or annoyed, or will lose confidence in your committee and decline from attending the Prom

How to Pick Your Perfect Prom Dress!

How to Pick the Perfect Prom Dress & Coordinate! 

Prom is one of the most important nights of your life.  So of course, you want to look as fabulous as you can!  Here are some tips to make sure you are at your most beautiful.... 

1. Search early –  start looking for a prom dress at least 4-6 weeks before your prom. You may want to start by searching the internet to get an idea of available styles, price ranges and colors.  This will help ensure that you get a chance to browse, see everything that's available and will help in the event that your dress has to be ordered and/or altered.  That said, don't have your dress altered too far in advance in case your weight fluctuates.

 

2. Budget –  Figure out how much you (or your parents) are willing to pay for a prom dress so that you can shop accordingly.  If necessary, check with the store at which you're shopping to see if they do an installment or layaway plan.

 

3. Hair & Makeup - When you're out looking, wear your hair and makeup similar to what you're planning on for prom so that you can get an idea of how the whole look is going to come together.  As well, you may find a dress that just begs for an up-do when you had planned on wearing your hair down.. so keep an open mind!

 

4. Under Where? - Wear the proper undergarments – make sure you're wearing the bra, underwear and hosiery you're thinking about wearing so that you can see how the dress is going to fit.  If you're really not positive what style you're looking for, you may want to wear a bra that's adjustable from strappy to strapless. 

 

5. Style – Assess which styles are most flattering to your body type, and determine which colors are most flattering to your skin tone. Take a trusted friend to get an honest opinion.  

 

6. Variety –  Even if you have a really definite idea of your dream dress, try on a variety of dresses to compare. Don't just stand in front of the mirror.... sit in the dress, try a few dance moves.. make sure that the dress is going to be comfortable for you as well as make you look smokin' hot!  Check out the fabric to make sure that it flows, looks good on you and that it doesn't turn into one giant wrinkle the first time you sit down!

 

7. Accessorize! - If you have certain accessories that you just MUST wear, bring them with you. If you buy your shoes and accessories after the fact, try on the whole ensemble to make sure it “works” well in advance of your big night. Make sure that your shoes, earrings and other accessories are going to be comfortable all night and that they look great with your dress!

 

8. Getting ready –  Depending on the dress you've chosen and how you're planning on wearing your hair, determine whether you should do your hair and makeup first, THEN put on your dress.. or put on the dress (making sure to cover up with a sheet or smock) and then do hair and makeup.  Nothing worse than putting on your dress and discovering you smeared makeup on it! Yikes! (Also note.. test out your deodorant in advance by wearing it with a black top or tee if you're wearing something sleeveless or strapless. Big white marks.. not so hot!)

Prom Party Bus, Bust in NJ

 Close to 50 students from a New Jersey high school have a prom night memory they wish never happened.

Police say nearly 50 Morristown High School students were charged with underage drinking after a bus returning them from an after-prom party in NYC was stopped at 4 am in East Rutherford.

Bergen County police say they stopped the bus with 58 people after the officer saw things being thrown out the windows, causing other vehicles to swerve and almost crash.

On the bus, police found 2 bars stocked with alcohol & a dance floor!  Overall, 48 people were charged with underage drinking, while 5 adults were charged with allowing juveniles to drink.

An unrelated Prom in 2008 here is another Similar Story!

Seven Montclair high school students- (5) 17 year olds & (2) 18 year olds were found with alcohol in their possession at the Montclair Junior Prom at Mayfair Farms. All 7 will be charged with underage drinking; the 18-year-olds will be charged as adults, said Lt. James Carlucci, Montclair Police.

Montclair police officers, who were working the prom smelled liquor & marijuana after a 36 passenger limo bus dropped a group of students off at the prom. When the limo bus was inspected,  numerous bottles were found inside student bags containing IDs. Principal Mel Katz said he would file complaints against students who had alcohol in their bags.

The limousine had small bottles of Bacardi Peach Red Rum, 1 bottle of raspberry vodka, 3 bottles of tequila, 1 bottle of Bacardi Grand Melon, 1 bottle of Jack Daniels, many of the bottles in small sizes.

The Moral of the Story is Underage drinking is still illegal and Schools do turn their students over to the police, so a Limo is a responsible ride BUT still does not give students attending a "School Function" the OK to drink!  I am also confident that all the students involved missed their prom, got fined & also were suspended from school.  Now is that any way to end 4 years of High School? Be Smart!

Prom Committee Timeline!

Your Prom Committee has a responsibility to build a once in a lifetime event for your friends & peers! This task should be taken seriously and your classmates will see the hard work you put into Prom!

Smart Tip #1: Break it up into smaller tasks, each of the items should be delegated to a different prom sub-committee, these sub-committees should have knowledge or insight into their "task" and enjoy what they are researching!  Then the sub-committee reports their findings back to the whole prom Committee by a mutually agreed upon date. Then the final decisions are made by the whole Committee, via a vote.

9 Months before Prom

• Choose your Prom Date (Weekdays have been more popular in the recent years)
• Form your Prom Committee & Sub-Committees with volunteers
• Determine the Overall Prom Budget & Open a Bank Account
• Start Fund-raising & looking into new creative fund-raisers
• Book your Prom Venue (Some Schools book the same venue the year before)

8 Months Before Prom

• Choose your Prom's Theme & Prom Song
• Choose Food Options (We Suggest Buffet for max Dancing time)
• Hire your Prom Disc Jockey
• Select & Order Prom Favors etc

7 Months Before Prom

• Select Prom Theme Decorations
• Order Decorations or Hire Prom Decorator
• Select & Hire your Prom Photographer
• Start Advertising Prom with Posters, Flyers & Announcements

5-6 Months Before Prom

• Decide ticket and invitation design & Order Tickets & Programs
• Write wording for memory booklet etc
  
• Book Prom security Team
  
• Arrange for Chaperones & Teachers to commit
  
• Order favors, & all other Prom supplies
• Build a Prom Photo Montage (Slideshow) for DJ to Play on Projector Screen

3-4 Months Before Prom

1 Week Before Prom

• Finalize total headcount
• Confirm with Prom Venue
• Assemble all decorations that can be moved to Venue
• Get final checks for Prom night payments(Venue, DJ, Photographer, Decor etc)

2 Days Before Prom

• Purchase or pick up food & beverages (if DIY)
• Decorate for the Prom(If DIY)

 Day of Prom!

• Prepare food & beverages (If DIY)
  
• Put up all outdoor decor & Inflate balloons 
• Have Phone Numbers of all your Vendors just in case

Smart Tip #2: Every School Handles Proms differently, some are in The School Gym & Some are in a NYC Night Club but all that matters is the the committee did the best they could within their allotted budget!  Our suggestion is Prom is ultimately a Formal School Dance, so Venue doesn't matter! The DJ, Decor & Photographer will make or Break your Prom!

2011 Guy's Prom Checklist

3 Months Before Prom

	Start using Prom Planning checklist.
	Ask how much money your parents are willing to contribute.
	Start saving money!! & Plan your Budget
	Find & Ask your date to go to Prom!

10 Weeks Before Prom

	Go for your tux fitting. If you know what color dress your date will wear, Coordinate colors!
	Start coordinating transportation. Will you drive, If so whose car? Will you rent a limo with your Friends? If so get Prices and form a Group of friends that are able to pay!
	Some Proms Don't have a Meal, so ask around for a good place for dinner before the Prom. Consider your Prom date's tastes in food & atmosphere (ask her, lol).

2 Months Before Prom

	Purchase Prom tickets & Get Adult to sign Permission Slip.
	Discuss your prom plans & After Prom with your parents. Hire Limo if Necessary.

2 Weeks Before Prom

	Call & confirm all reservations & Limo Rentals you have made for Prom day.
	Finalize Schedule with friends, date & parents.  Where will you all meet?
	Order your date's corsage from Florist (keep in mind dress color!)

Several Days Before Prom

	Get your haircut.
	What time will you pick your date up?  (or limo if applicable)
	Wash your car & vacuum it, if driving.
	Supply Kit: Camera, cell phone, cash for tips, student ID, Prom tickets, Limo Number etc.

Prom Day!!

	Pick up corsage at Florist (Keep refrigerated). Don't forget you Camera & Prom Tickets!
	Pick up your tux, if you haven't already. Make sure to have tie and cummerbund or vest (and that they match your date's dress), dress shoes/socks, cuff links & studs. HAVE FUN & Remember don't Drink & Drive or Get in a Vehicle with anyone under the Influence!! Good luck & have a Blast  Cher!

	Start trying different hair styles, even if you are DIY.

3 Weeks Before Prom

	Pick up your Prom dress.
	Break in Prom shoes by wearing them several times a day.
	Make your hair, makeup & nails appointments. Avoid the last minute rush by locating other salons not near your town.  Order boutonniere from Florist.

2 Weeks Before Prom

	Call & confirm all appointments & Limo Rentals you have made for Prom day.
	Setup an Emergency Kit: camera, clear nail polish, extra pantyhose, cellphone, cash for tips, student ID, tickets, limo number.
	Introduce your parents to your Prom date.

Day of your Prom!! 

	Pick up boutonniere from Florist.  Don't forget you Camera & Prom Tickets!
	Go to your hair, nails & makeup appointments. HAVE FUN & Remember don't Drink & Drive or Get in a Vehicle with anyone under the Influence!! Good luck & have a Blast  Cher!
