Yet another sad story of stealing from students...
TEMPE, AZ -- A yearlong investigation of the disappearance of $192,000 from the Tempe Union High School District has ended in the indictment of the former bookstore manager of McClintock High School, according to a Wednesday report.
Attorney General Terry Goddard announced Wednesday that Rebecca Sue Soto, 49, is being charged with one count each of fraudulent schemes and theft, which are both class two felonies. In order to make deposits, Soto’s position as bookstore manager gave her access to McClintock High School’s bank accounts, allowing her to allegedly embezzle more than $192,000 between July 2006 and July 2008, according to a press release from the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.
Upon this discovery, TUHSD called the Tempe Police Department and started an independent audit that evaluated the bookstore’s fiancés over the past two years, which revealed that more money was missing, according to police spokesman Sgt. Steve Carbajal.
Soto was fired in September 2008 when the embezzlement investigation began.
If your Prom or School dance money is unaccounted for this may be happening at your school too! Make sure you account for every last penny. Make sure no one is skimming or no money is going into a school "slush" fund. This money is NOT for a fundraiser but to provide the best experience possible for paying attendees!
